Alagnak River Alaska Fishing Report, July 3, 2028

Let me begin this report by wishing everyone a happy Independence Day from the Katmai Lodge in Alaska.  During this time with your family and friends, please take a moment to remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom and those first responders and military members serving our country and protecting us and our freedom.

Instead of fireworks, our excitement here on the Alagnak is happy and stupid fish and screaming drags. After three weeks of training, today is my first solo charter and to say I’m excited is an understatement.  Posting reports from the Katmai Lodge is both difficult and time consuming, so for now my blogs will be short and sweet.

On one of our training days we took a fly out adventure to Brooks Falls to receive our bear training.  Brooks Fall is the number one Alaska brown bear viewing site in the world and one of the many fly out excursions available while staying at the Katmai Lodge.  The sockey salmon are just starting to arrive, so no bears were seen during our visit.

Yesterday I fished with my longtime friend who came t0 Alaska for his 50th birthday and ended up with his limit of sockeye salmon on fly.  Jeff and I go way back and spending some time with him fishing in Alaska is priceless.

Good luck and good fishing,

Captain Tom Van Horn
